PRAVEEN PONRAJ

Hi, I’m Praveen Ponraj, a wildlife conservation photographer based in Victoria, on Vancouver Island. My work is dedicated to capturing the beauty, wonder, and fragility of wildlife, sharing stories that inspire care and connection with the natural world.
Photography has been a part of my life for over a decade. I began as a commercial wedding photographer in 2010 and also pursued photography professionally while working at Boeing India. Over time, my focus shifted entirely to wildlife and conservation, combining my love for nature with a desire to make a meaningful impact through imagery.
I hold a BE in Aeronautical Engineering from Tagore Engineering College in Chennai and a Master’s in Global Management from Royal Roads University in Victoria, with a focus on Sustainability Strategies. My background in science and engineering helps me observe wildlife thoughtfully and capture their stories with precision and care.
For me, photography is both practice and passion. I spend hours in forests, wetlands, and remote landscapes, waiting patiently for fleeting moments of animal behaviour or the delicate balance of ecosystems. Each image is a celebration of life and a call to protect it.
Some of my photo prints and cards are available locally at Fika, the cozy coffee shop on Cook Street and Johnson Street here in Victoria. It’s a joy to share my work with the community and see it bring nature’s stories into everyday spaces.
I hope my work inspires people to slow down, notice the wonders of nature, and feel a deeper connection with the world around them. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll likely find me exploring Pacific Northwest parks, trekking through the Indian Western Ghats, or simply observing the quiet details of life around me.
